gimme that

Photographing a new house tour always makes me so excited. Everyone infuses so much of their personality into their home, and I love capturing those details. Sign me up to be an interior designer in my second life. I’ll just have to photograph in the meantime!

This past fall my friend Kelly Harrold of the blog Paper Meets Pearl bought a house in James Island, South Carolina with her boyfriend Phil. Kelly had every decor detail picked out and decorated as soon as they moved in (yeah, girl!). Kelly went for a modern, mid-century vibe with a splash of surfer cool. I’m so glad she asked me to photograph her house tour!

In other exciting home news, my boyfriend Hunter just bought a house in James Island as well (right down the street from Kelly)! We moved in at the end of February and we cannot wait to start painting and decorating. We both previously rented bedrooms downtown, and we realized when we moved into the new 3 bedroom house that we really don’t own that much furniture or home decor yet (probably a good problem to have). I can’t wait to blog a house tour of our own!

Kelly & Phil’s Modern, Beachy House Tour

Because James Island is super close to Folly Beach, Phil is always there catching a wave. He proudly displays his boards in a custom-made storage system. How cool is that! The boards become a focal point of the room, and they show off what Kelly and Phil love about living in the Lowcountry. Don’t you love the pineapple details sprinkled throughout the room? Nothing says Charleston better than a pineapple!

House Tour: Modern, midcentury living room with a bar cart, surfboards, and sitting area House Tour: Surfboards in a custom made storage system House Tour: A modern, midcentury bar cart House Tour: A bar tool set and framed photo of the ocean on top of a bar cart House Tour: A decorative pillow that says Welcome to Paradise House Tour: Two rattan chairs with decorative pillows that say Welcome to Paradise House Tour: Two issues of Surfer magazine on a side table

One of Kelly and Phil’s first priorities when moving in was the kitchen. They painted the cabinets and replaced the hardware to brighten up the narrow space. I love the touches of texture on the chairs and in the corner with the cactus!

Thank you for having me photograph your house tour, Kelly and Phil!

Check out Kelly’s posts about her new home over at Paper Meets Pearl, too! Over there you’ll find her sources for furniture and decor.
